With Kuroge Wagyu slices for shabu-shabu and sukiyaki, differences in meat quality are hard to see until you open the box, and it is easy to hesitate over which cut to choose and how much fat to expect. In this article, we organized the product page and the Rakuten reviews for the domestic Kuroge Wagyu slices, 500g, that Echizen Kani Shokunin Kouragumi (DENSHOKU) sells on Rakuten Ichiba (you choose between shoulder loin (chuck roll) and momo (round)) into five points: amount, storage and thawing, ingredient labeling, gift suitability, and reviews. The A5 grade in the product name is the shop’s own label; proof of grading (such as an individual identification number) is not stated on the product page and is not confirmed.
What We Confirmed
- Amount and how to choose the cut
- Storage method and thawing method
- Ingredients and allergen labeling

Five Things to Check Before Buying
| Point to check | For this product | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Amount & cut (number of servings) | 1 box, 500g. You choose between shoulder loin and momo. About 2 to 3 servings is given as a guide | Purchase field and product description on the product page. No breakdown of the number of servings is found |
| 2. Storage & shelf life | Frozen (−18°C or below), 1 month stated. The starting point of the count and the shelf life after thawing are not confirmed | Best-before date field on the product page |
| 3. Ingredients & allergen labeling | not confirmed (not stated on the page) | Checked the product page and the product description images |
| 4. Suitable as a gift? | Shown as supporting noshi (gift wrapping label). The list of inscription types and whether message cards and wrapping are supported could not be confirmed | Display on the product page and the noshi guide image |
| 5. Review trends | The Rakuten Ichiba rating is 4.52 / 5 (1,827 reviews). The reviews we read were 57 in the default order and 30 each at 1★ and 2★, and they may not reflect the product’s current condition. Trends are organized in the review section below | Rakuten customer reviews (“Minna no Review”) (viewed October 1, 2026) |
Suitable as a Gift?
Regarding noshi (gift wrapping label), Rakuten’s product information shows that noshi is supported, and the product description says various kinds of noshi are available. However, no list of inscription types (such as 御祝 [congratulations] and 内祝 [uchiiwai, thank-you gift]) is found on the product page, and the noshi guide image says you choose it on the order procedure screen after proceeding from the shopping cart. The product name includes words that mean “gift”, but this is not a statement showing which noshi inscriptions are supported.
- Noshi form: because of the simple packaging, the page says all noshi will be the “strip sticker” noshi (outer noshi). It says the sender’s name is written on the delivery slip and does not go on the strip sticker
- The page says noshi for Buddhist use cannot be attached
- The page says that when multiple items are ordered for one delivery address, noshi is basically attached to only one item, and that if you have a request you should contact the shop individually
- Packaging: the packaging field on the product page is not set, and the specifications of the gift box could not be confirmed from the shop’s description
- Message card / wrapping: the fields on the product page are not set, and whether they are supported is not confirmed
- Because it arrives frozen, checking in advance whether the recipient can receive it at the date and time you specify, and whether they have room in the freezer for 500g, makes mix-ups less likely

Tenderness & texture
10 of the 57 reviews mentioned a tenderness that falls apart in the mouth. All of them are posts from the last two years. The shop’s product page also uses wording about a soft texture, but only buyers’ posts are counted here.
Ease of eating as sukiyaki or shabu-shabu
21 of the 57 reviews said it tasted good in sukiyaki or shabu-shabu. By breakdown, 20 mentioned sukiyaki and 5 mentioned shabu-shabu, so comments about sukiyaki are the most common.

13 of the 57 reviews said the marbling was beautiful or the amount of fat was just right. Of these, 4 were posts by people who chose momo and mentioned marbling that did not seem like momo. Separately, 4 posts wrote that momo is lighter than shoulder loin, which may help in choosing a cut.

What Reviewers Note
Of the 60 reviews at 1★ and 2★, 27 are posts from the last two years (October 2024 onward), and the rest are older. Some of the older posts refer to a sales page layout different from the current one (such as a quantity selection field). For each theme, we add the count from the last two years.
Lots of fat
27 of the 60 reviews at 1★ and 2★ (6 of them posted within the last two years) said there was a lot of fat, fat floated in the pot, or they got heartburn.

18 of the 60 reviews at 1★ and 2★ (15 of them posted within the last two years) said that lean or sinewy meat was mixed in toward the bottom of the box, or that the marbling differed between the top and the bottom. These posts date from December 2023 to March 2026. In addition, 7 posts (6 of them from the last two years) said the quality felt lower than when they bought it before, but the reason cannot be read from the posts.
How to check: The variation in meat quality the shop explains is summarized in the “Variation in meat quality (the shop’s guidance)” row of this article’s “Basic Information” section.
Toughness, sinew & dryness
16 of the 60 reviews at 1★ and 2★ (8 of them posted within the last two years) said it felt tough, sinewy, or dry. Because the posts do not show whether the thawing method was followed, we cannot determine the cause.
How to check: The thawing method the shop explains is summarized in the “Thawing method” row of this article’s “Basic Information” section.
