Osechi (traditional Japanese New Year’s food) is a hard thing to choose: the number of servings, frozen or chilled delivery, how long thawing takes, the delivery date, and whether the box can carry a noshi (gift wrapping label) all differ by product. For the 2027 New Year, this article lines up candidates by number of servings from the six single-product articles published on Ochinity, and rearranges what each product page says onto the same yardstick: type, tiers and number of dishes, storage and thawing, the serving guide written by the shop, and price range. “Hakata,” “Otaru,” “Hokkaido,” and “Maizuru” in shop and series names are the names of shops or series, not an indication of where the ingredients come from. Items not covered in a single-product article are shown as “—” or “not confirmed” rather than filled in by guesswork.

The order is not a ranking. Whether we earn a commission has no effect on which candidates we choose or in what order they appear.

If You Can’t Decide

Candidates are grouped only by the serving guide that each shop writes on its product page. This is not a ranking. The text in parentheses is the type of dishes stated in the single-product article.

How to Choose

Read the serving guide as the shop states it

The serving guides the shops write are 2 servings (Itamaetamashii “Nozomi”, Otaru Kitaichi Seafood Osechi “Kotobuki”), 2–3 servings (Hakata Hisamatsu “Maizuru”, Furansuya “Neuilly”), and 4–5 servings (Kibun “Iwai no Sachi”). For Tokatsu Foods “Kenran Hōō”, the product name says 4–5 servings while the spec section says 4 servings only, and the two are not reconciled. Hakata Hisamatsu “Maizuru” notes that some items do not divide into that many portions. The number of dishes ranges from 20 to 52, and Furansuya “Neuilly” is a dishes set that comes without a tiered box. Source: the “Quantity” row of each single-product article (per the product page)

Frozen or chilled (and how long thawing takes)

Five of the six arrive frozen; only Kibun “Iwai no Sachi” arrives chilled, with no thawing needed according to the shop. The refrigerator thawing guides are about 24–36 hours for Itamaetamashii “Nozomi”, 24 hours or more for Hakata Hisamatsu “Maizuru”, and about 20–24 hours for Otaru Kitaichi Seafood Osechi “Kotobuki”. Tokatsu Foods “Kenran Hōō” is described as ready to eat once thawed, but its single-product article gives no thawing time. Delivery dates and order deadlines

How you choose the delivery date differs by product.
